Kid ready for anyone after knockout ring return

Updated 11th June 2013

Kid Galahad believes he is now “ready for anyone” after making it a knockout return to the ring.

The WBC International super-bantamweight champion showcased his speed, timing and punch power to give Isaac Nettey the first stoppage defeat of his now 31-fight career.

“I’m ready for anyone - if Scott Quigg wants to fight we’ll get it on, if Carl Frampton wants to fight, we’ll get it on,” Kid said.

Kid, 23, fought tough Ghanaian Nettey, who took Rendall Munroe the distance for the vacant Commonwealth super-bantamweight title in 2009, on the James DeGale undercard Saturday night, at Glow, Bluewater, on Channel 5 in the UK and Wealth TV in the US.

From the first round Kid showcased his superior movement and speed to measure shots and pick off Nettey at will.

Utilising his speed and punching accuracy, Kid Galahad was connecting with solid shots, switching between head and body.

A crunching left uppercut in the third wobbled Nettey and was swiftly followed by a combination of lefts and rights.

Kid’s punching accuracy was paying dividends, making Nettey miss and catching him with counters.

Nettey came out for the fourth throwing flurries of punches in an attempt to get back into the fight, but again Kid Galahad utilised his speed and movement to land a powerful straight right that visibly buckled the durable African fighter.

A solid left sent Nettey off-balance across the ring as Kid Galahad again showed his class.

By the fifth Kid Galahad was punishing Nettey with his accuracy, measuring him with the jab before delivering a solid left and right combination to the head and body, sending Nettey down for the first time in the fight for an eight-count.

Kid Galahad then moved in for the finish, forcing Nettey back into a corner, landing solid body shots before referee Mark Green stepped in to stop the contest 2 minutes 35 seconds into the fifth round.

“I wanted to box and take my time, make it look flawless,” Galahad said.

“I haven’t boxed since December - so I just wanted to take my time and just show my fans a bit of class.

“I wanted to get some rounds in and he got a bit cheeky, so I thought, ‘I need to get him out of here.’

“I put a bit more pressure on him and gave him a bit more.”

The win maintains Galahad's perfect record, moving to 14 wins from 14 fights, with seven knockouts.
