Tyan Booth unlucky with technical draw

Updated 10th December 2012

Tyan Booth wants to “move on” after his two year absence from the ring ended with a technical draw against Ryan Aston on Saturday.

In front of his home crowd, on the True Brit undercard, at Nottingham’s Capital FM Arena, the Ingle Gym middleweight, Tyan, looked in control of the fight until the referee stopped the contest in the third.

“I want to move on, for me in my mind, I know I have beaten him, I know I would have broken him down in the next couple of rounds,” Tyan said.

“I’ve got nothing to gain by beating people like this; I want to be boxing at British, Commonwealth and European title level.”

Tyan hadn’t competed in a professional contest for over two years, studying at University and working.

But, the Nottingham born fighter never looked like he had been away; connecting with solid left jabs and utilising his movement to keep Aston at range.

Left jabs to the head shaded the first round and in the second Tyan was landing solid right hooks and left jabs to the head and body.

Aston did try to respond and connected with a couple of rights but never seemed to have the Nottingham man in trouble.

In the third round, Tyan picked up the pace and a cut appeared above the eye of Aston.

Referee Terry O’Connor stopped the fight for the doctor to inspect the cut and subsequently waved off the contest, ruling that it had been administered through an accidental clash of heads.

As the fight had not reached the fourth round it was scored a technical draw.

“It felt good to be back in, anything other than a win is disappointing – the guy got a cut above his eye, which I think was a punch, but the referee said it was a headbutt,” Tyan said.

“It was only six rounds, so I’m sure he could have gotten through it by putting Vaseline on, but even then I would have opened it up again with right hooks and right uppercuts.

“Uppercuts slice the skin, I know this is brutal barbaric talk but this is the sport, so that would have opened up the cut again.”

Despite earning only a draw in the fight, the Nottingham middleweight is a former European Union and Midland title challenger and this contest has certainly reinvigorated his passion to compete.

“For me there is no bigger buzz than boxing that I’ve experienced in life so far,” Tyan said.

“To get back into the ring and get that buzz back, it was inevitable that I was going to come back.

“There’s only one thing I really want to do and that’s boxing, that’s my priority.

“Anyone can stand there and say I want to be world champion and I can be world champion, but actions speak louder than words and my intention is to be in the gym twice a day and fight anyone.

“I’m confident I can go through British, Commonwealth and European title level and beyond.”
