FORGING CHAMPIONS SINCE 1964

The Graduation

Updated 12th December 2012

Bob Ajisafe will show “slick boxing skills” to overcome Travis Dickinson at the Octagon Centre on Saturday.

The current English light heavyweight champion, Ajisafe, meets 2011 Prizefighter champion Dickinson in the first defence of his English title in Sheffield this weekend.

“I’m feeling really good, I’ve trained very well for this. It’s been a very good camp and I’ve been ticking over in the gym all year as well really,” Ajisafe said.

“Im going to show slick boxing skills, good movement, accuracy and power; I’m prepared to fight and to successfully defend my title on Saturday.”

Ajisafe claimed the title with a third round stoppage over Darren Stubbs in Oldham on cuts in 2011 and he is really looking forward to making his first defence.

“I can’t wait to get in there, I’ve been in the gym counting down and as the days get closer I just can’t wait to get in there and get the job done and get my hand raised, that’s what I’m looking forward to,” Ajisafe said.

However, with Travis Dickinson, Ajisafe is certainly not in for an easy night.

Since turning professional in 2009, Dickinson has built a record of 13 wins from 13 contests with five knockouts.

The 24-year-old also boasts the 2011 Prizefighter light-heavyweight tournament title, a competition Ajisafe was eliminated from via a unanimous decision at the quarter final stage in 2009.

“Every fight is different and styles make fights, so I’ve just got to get in there, make sure I don’t get caught with silly shots and get my hand raised at the end of it,” Ajisafe said.

“Obviously he is undefeated up to now, but I haven’t seen that much of him that worries me to be honest; I’m just concentrating and focusing on my game, doing what I’ve got to do and executing the game plan.”

If Ajisafe can get passed Dickinson on Saturday he is looking to push towards a British title in 2013.

“After defending my title I’m definitely looking to be in the mix for a British title next,” Ajisafe said.

“I think that’s been long overdue for me now; I’ve paid my dues, I’ve been waiting around this year and hopefully this is the time to get moving.”

The pair meet at Sheffield’s Octagon Centre on Saturday 15 December.

The bill also includes Muheeb “Flashy” Fazeldin, Sam "The Sensation" O'maison, Tom "2 Classy" McAssey, Liam "Cannonball" Cameron, Callum "The Hitman" Hancock and David Howe.

Doors open at 6.30 with the first bout scheduled for 7.30.

Tickets still available at 0844 888 4402.
