Sam ready to get stuck in to 2015

Updated 31st December 2014

Sam ‘The Sensation’ O’maison is ready to show what he’s made of in 2015.

The 23-year-old Sheffield fighter fears no one and wants to "get in the mix" for major titles.

Above: Sam talks about his year, sends a message to his fans and looks ahead to 2015.

“This year I’ve learnt a lot,” Sam said.

“There’s been a lot happening, not only in boxing but outside as well, but in 2015 I’m going to put that right.

“I’m going to work hard, I always work hard anyway, but just get the things that didn’t go so well last time, get them right and stack those wins up and get some more belts round my waist - hopefully one day next year I’ll have a British title round my waist or something like that.”

Sam, whose record stands at nine wins, with no draws, suffered the first and only professional loss of his career to date against Michael Mooney in September.

But, following the defeat, Sam is more determined than ever before to prove he has the heart and the skills to reach the very top.

“It happens to everyone,” Sam said.

“You get knocked down - you’ve just got to get back up and carry on marching on, or you can quit - but then you’ve got that hanging round you for the rest of your life and you’re carrying on thinking, ‘what if? But, what if?’

“I’m 23, so I’ve got time on my side, I’m going to get stuck in and do what I can do - I’m not scared to fight anyone, my 0’s gone now, so I’ve got nothing to lose, I’ll jump in and fight anyone, it’s not a problem.

“People don’t realise how hard boxing is - it looks beautiful from the outside, you’re famous overnight say, but the hard work that goes in and everything that happens behind it, people don’t see that.

“Those involved obviously they do and they know what sacrifices are made and what’s what - boxing’s a very, very hard sport and people don’t realise until they get involved and a lot of people, I think, that come in this gym, if they knew what was in front of them and what they’re going to have to face, I think they’d walk straight back out of the door to be honest.

“I’ve been at it for 10 years, so I’m not going to just throw down my gloves and walk off, it’s not in me to do it. I’m just here to fight, get stuck in and then whatever happens, happens, but I’m going to work hard to make sure that I get that win.

“Before it was like; ‘Oh I’m unbeaten this and that,’ but my 0 has gone now so it doesn’t matter anymore, I’ve just got to get in the ring and just do what I do and just perform to the best that I can.

“If it doesn’t go my way in the future, people may say; ‘Oh he was no one really, you know, he beat a few good kids, come up against a kid that wasn't the best of kids and got put away,’ or: ‘Oh he’s no one,’ and just chuck him to the side, but it’s my time now to prove them wrong and come in and show them that I’m still wanting it, I’m still there and get involved - 2015 is my time, make or break in that year.”
