Kyle looking to shock on his pro debut

Updated 12th February 2015

Kyle Yousaf promises fans are in for a “shock” when he steps into the ring for the first time as a professional.

The Ingle Gym fighter “can’t wait” to show what he’s got in his first contest at the Octagon Centre, Sheffield, on February 21.

“I’m really excited because we have so may local fighters on that show and obviously our own fans will be on it, so I just can’t wait to impress in front of them,” Kyle said.

“There’s been so many dates where I was supposed to fight and it didn’t come through, but now it’s on the 21st and we’re just a few weeks away and I just can’t wait.

“I just want to get in the ring and show the fans what I’ve got and what skills I can bring to the table.”

Kyle started fighting at the late age of 17 and picked the Ingle Gym to train having grown up watching Prince Naseem Hamed.

Training alongside champions like IBF welterweight king Kell Brook and unbeaten European, Commonwealth and IBF Youth super bantamweight champion Kid Galahad has been an invaluable experience and following a short amateur career consisting of 19 fights with 15 victories, he is ready to give it his all in the professional game.

“I used to watch boxing with my Dad and he’s always been into it, so I just thought one day I’d give it a go,” Kyle said.

“When I did come down, I didn’t do too well the first time, but gradually I got better and better and here I am today making my professional debut in a few weeks time.

“When I was younger I used to watch Prince Naseem (Hamed) and just watching him and seeing the moves he used to do, I thought to myself, in Sheffield, Brendan Ingle MBE is the gym - there is no other gym like this, this is where it works.

“When you’re training around Kell Brook and Kid Galahad, when you’re sparring them or doing pads in front of them, you just want to impress them and show them what you’ve got.

“I look up to them and see when they were my age they were going through what I’m going through - they stuck to it, trained hard and look where they are now! So when I look up to them I think to myself; ‘In so many years time, that could be me.’

“We train just by them, so whatever they do, we do and every sparring session they give us tips and things to do, which is really good.

“They’ve given me many tips, but you’ll be seeing that on the 21st of February.

“Training has been going really well and I’ve been training really hard and they’ve been pushing me every week.

“I’m looking to impress the fans and they’ll be in for a shock.

“Remember the name, 'Golden Kid'.”
