Hancock donating entire fight purse to Lee Noble

Updated 23rd February 2015

Callum ‘Hitman’ Hancock is donating his entire purse from his fight on Friday to cancer-victim and fellow Ingle Gym fighter Lee Noble.

Lee was diagnosed with Leukaemia in November and when Callum enters the ring at Ice Sheffield this Friday night, he’ll be fighting for his seventh professional win and to raise vital funds for his friend.

“Lee Noble unfortunately in November 2014 had the biggest shock of his life when he was diagnosed with Leukaemia,” Callum said.

“Lee Noble has been the heart and soul of this gym for many years and he is Jack the Lad, to be helping him out – he puts a smile on anyone’s face – so I’m ready for this and I want to do it.

“Every little helps, so anybody who wants tickets from me, that’s where it’s going, it’s going to Lee Noble.

As Lee cannot make a living during his time in and out of Sheffield Royal Hallamshire Hospital during his treatment, funds for the 27-year-old Barnsley middleweight are vital and greatly appreciated.

Knowing this, Callum, 23, who spent 18 months out of the ring after suffering with back injuries sustained in a car crash, is determined to help and came up with the idea after attending a white collar boxing event.

“I was going to white collar boxing and I thought it’s brilliant, these people who have never trained before in their life have eight weeks worth of training and then they have a fight,” Callum said.

“I’m not rich but I’m earning a few quid, I’m healthy, I love to train, I absolutely love fighting anyway, so there’s absolutely no reason why I can’t help a mate out.

“People jump out of aeroplanes and put their lives in jeopardy for charities, I’m doing something I love in boxing.

“Completely different circumstances but I had 18 months out, I know a lot of people laugh and joke about it, but for me it wasn’t - when you’re trying to build a career the last thing that you want is time out at the beginning and Lee, bless him, he’s had a few years in boxing and he’s been diagnosed with this and this is a fight he’s got to win and he is going to win.

“I want to try and give a little bit of light back and let him know that not just myself, but everyone in this gym and the boxing community, we’re all behind him and rooting for him 110%.

“When something as drastic as this happens in your life, you really do put things into perspective and Lee has taken it in his stride, he’s got an absolute top game and mental side of things and he was chuffed to bits when I told him what I’m going to be doing for him, he gave me a hug, said thank you and he appreciates absolutely every little helps.”

Callum is also hoping to put in another good display as he looks to kick start 2015 with a solid win.

“When you’ve got a fight you’ve got goals to hit and targets to achieve and I’m determined to hit them and make these dreams come true,” Callum said.

“My training is going brilliantly, I’m absolutely loving it, I’m enjoying the training, my diet is spot on and I’m ready to get in and do the business.

“Fans can always expect me to give 110% every time I step through those ropes and whether it goes 30 seconds or six rounds, I’m trained for six rounds.

“That’s the beauty of this sport, you don’t actually know how long it’s going to last.”
