Brook vows to win world title

Kell Brook ‘won’t be denied’ when he challenges Devon Alexander for the IBF world welterweight title on 23 February.

In his ‘dream’ fight, Sheffield’s Brook, 26, does not accept anything other than victory when he faces the American in Detroit.

“This is what I’ve dreamt for and what I’ve trained all my life for and there’s no way I’m going to go over there to Detroit and come back without that world title, there’s no way,” Brook said.

“I’m going to go out there, to his backyard and I’m coming home with that IBF world title and Sheffield is going to have another world champion.”

Brook, 26, puts his perfect 29-0 (19 knockouts) record on the line when he travels to the United States to step up to elite level for the first time in his career.

He faces two-weight world champion Alexander, 25, who, despite being the younger man, is considered the favourite."It's the first time I've been the underdog, but it doesn't matter to me," Brook said.

"He's the champion and people are expecting him to keep the title but we know differently. I'm going to show him - and the world - why people call me the 'Special One'.

"I've got to do whatever it takes to win, whether I make it a dogfight or a technical fight. Whatever happens in that ring, the job will get done."

The pair were originally scheduled to fight this weekend until an ankle injury suffered by Brook forced a postponement. “The injury is fine and I’d like to thank Eddie (Hearn) and Golden Boy for giving me this extension,” Brook said.

“I would have been 60 percent if they’d said no and I had had to go through with it and you know for a top quality fighter in Devon Alexander I have to be 100 percent and believe you me I will be for this fight.

“It’s my time to go out there and show the world that I’m number one; I’m going to go out there and I’m taking that title from Devon Alexander, I won’t be denied.”

Alexander’s record stands at 24 wins (13 knockouts) with one defeat and no draws.

He won the IBF welterweight title with a unanimous decision over fellow American Randall Bailey in New York, the same night Brook knocked Hector Saldivia out in Sheffield last October.

“As I’m stood here now I’m at the same physical level as I was at for my last fight and I took that guy (Saldivia) out, who’s a world class fighter, who’s very strong and I took him out with a jab, they call me the doctor, one jab and they’re done,” Brook said.

“I’ve got five or six weeks more from the shape I’m in now to become something incredible,  I’m going to be the best Kell Brook - the best I’ve ever been for this fight and that’s frightening.”
