Jordan feels ready for domestic honours

Updated 22nd July 2015

Jordan 'The Thrill' Gill is looking to remain unbeaten and push towards domestic honours when he takes on George Gachechiladze at Derby Arena this Saturday.

The undefeated 21-year-old featherweight, who has been named mandatory challenger for the St George's belt, must first deal with Georgian fighter Gachechiladze at Derby Arena, live on Spike TV.

"I've just turned 21, so there's no rush, but I want to be in the mix for domestic titles now. I believe I'm good enough," Jordan said.

"If I win the English title, it will give me a top ten ranking at featherweight and then I can start pushing for a British title shot."

Jordan has a flawless record consisting of 13 straight victories in his three-years since turning professional.

In his last outing he recorded his biggest victory to date, with a six-round decision over the experienced Barrington Brown.

However, with a showdown with Jamie Speight for the English title in the offing, Jordan will have to remain fully focused on the task at hand come Saturday.

Gachechiladze, who has 17 wins to his name, including 10 knockouts, has fought the likes of WBA world super-bantamweight champion Scott Quigg's most recent opponent and former IBF world champion in his own right Kiko Martinez.

An experienced fighter who has also traded leather with Jordan's fellow Ingle Gym fighter Kid Galahad's former British title foe Jazza Dickens.

But Jordan remains unfazed and takes heart from the rate of his progression, as well as training alongside the likes of IBF world welterweight champion Kell Brook.

“I've been very happy with my career so far," Jordan said.

"I've been progressing at the right pace and I'm learning a lot in the gym. I'm getting top quality sparring with the likes of Kid Galahad and Kell Brook - we even went over to America when Kell won the world title and I sparred Jorge Linares. Everything has been going smoothly.

“It's good to train with Kell because we do exactly what he does in the gym.

We know it works. Kell is proof that you can become a world champion if you work hard enough. What he's achieved is incredible – going to America to win a world title. That's inspiring for us.

“Every champion in the gym is inspiring because when we all first step into the gym the plan is to become a champion. Kell's the main man to look up to right now and I want to emulate him in the future.

"All preparations have gone well so you should see a great performance Saturday night in Derby!"

Jordan's fight will be shown live on Spike TV as part of Hennessy Sports night of Championship boxing, which will later be broadcast on Channel 5.

Also on the bill is fellow Ingle Gym fighter 'Leighthal' Leigh Wood who is looking to deliver a memorable performance of his own.
